GUITAR II GUITAR III GUITAR IV Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite(s): Guitar I for II, Guitar II for III, and Guitar III for IV
Guitar II and Guitar III will be a continuation of material covered in Guitar I with attention given to more complex chords, jazz improvisation, finger picking and arpeggio classical guitar style. Students will be asked to learn classical guitar solo literature. Students will continue in-depth discovery of standard music notation. Performance at a concert at the end of the year will be required. Students must provide their own acoustic guitar. Classical style guitar is preferred, but folk style is acceptable. Instruction will include college guitar scholarship preparation. There is a fee of $35 for this class.

 Advanced Guitar is currently learning the Arkansas State University Guitar Department entrance audition packet. Content will include:
  • Range of the guitar "C" major and "A" Melodic Minor. 
  • The 5 movable scale patterns
  • Sight Reading
  • Chromatic octave exercise
  • Arpeggio on block chord study
  • Prepare a performance of three solo works based on the following criteria. If needed, please inquire for proper scores. All but the Bach may be found online at IMSLP.:

    A short solo by Johann Sebastian Bach (see the Bach Album by Sophocles Papas)

    A solo etude from the one of the following composers: Fernando Sor
    Mauro Giuliani
    Dionisio Aguado

    Matteo Carcassi
    Etude in E Minor by Francisco Tarrega
