Welcome Ms Blount Smith’s Web Page.  This is  the location for those involved with the ancients, for the most part, but also for the moderns with the study of Etymology.  My e-mail address is bsmith@bartlettschools.org and my classroom is E 11.  This classroom has been my home for 45 years.

Welcome to the pages of the Latins of Rome, Classical Mythology, and Etymology. My classes are oriented in things from long ago; but these things are very relevant today.

Class Content

In the Latin classes we study in the first two years the life of a Roman family in 80 ad and through this learn Roman Culture and Latin Grammar and Vocabulary.  In Latin III we read original Roman authors and in Latin IV we read about Aeneas.  In Mythology we study about the Ancient Greek gods and goddesses as well as the stories connected to then as well as Jason and the Golden Fleece, Odysseus and Aeneas.  In Etymology Honors we study Latin and Greek word roots of English words.

Clubs and Activities Sponsored

 I sponsor the Latin Club, the Bartlett High School division of the TN Junior Classical League, the SASA Club, the Service and Social Association which is somewhat connected to Snowflake Ball, and Snowflake Ball our Winter Prom that is held each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  Any student in grades 9 - 12 may attend Snowflake Ball so long as hen buys a ticket and is in good standing at BHS or the Ninth Grade Academy.  

THE TEACHER

MS SMITH HAS A BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE FROM VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY WITH A CONCENTRATION ON ENGLISH AND LATIN AND A MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN SECONDARY COUNSELING FROM MEMPHIS STATE UNIVERSITY, CURRENTLY KNOWN AS UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS.  MS SMITH FIRMLY BELIEVES THAT THE STUDY OF LATIN WILL ASSIST THE STUDENT IN MASTERING HIS OWN LANGUAGE, IN INCREASING HIS ENGLISH VOCABULARY AND IN STRENGTHENING HIS ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS.  SHE BELIEVES THAT EVERY STUDENT CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IF HE UTILIZES HIS TIME WELL, PREPARES HIS LESSONS, ATTENDS SCHOOL EVERY DAY, LISTENS WITH UNDERSTANDING EVERY DAY, AND APPLIES HIMSELF.

MS B SMITH'S CLASSES 2016/2017

THIS YEAR MS B. SMITH TEACHES LATIN II, LATIN IIH, LATIN IIIH, LATIN IV H, MYTHOLOGY AND ETYMOLOGY. IN THE LATIN CLASSES, THE STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SPEAK AND READ LATIN AND ARE LEARNING TO CARRY ON CONVERSATIONS IN LATIN AS WELL AS TO KNOWING THE VOCABULARY AND THE CULTURE OF THE ROMANS IN 80 A D.
