Bartlett High School

Hello and welcome to my webpage! My name is Paul Lindsay, and I am enjoying my 6th year of teaching Visual Art 1 at Bartlett High School. I am a twice graduate of the University of Memphis with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design (1995) and with an M.A.T. in Art Education (2011). Between my degrees, I worked many years in the signage industry doing graphic design, digitally printing graphics, and wrapping cars for starters. In 2009, I made the decision to do a career change and pursue art education, and here I am! I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this community and am proud of Bartlett High and Bartlett City Schools.

I only teach Visual Art 1, where we will be covering the elements of design (line, shape, value, color, texture, space) and the principles of design (balance, contrast, unity, emphasis, pattern, movement). We will be using a variety of media, primarily graphite, colored pencils, colored markers, tempera paint, watercolor, colored paper, and more. Most of the projects will be in the form of a drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, mixed media or the occasional written work. The projects may span anywhere from one to ten class periods, depending on the breadth and scope of the project. For projects that go longer, the grade will be doubled or tripled to make the grade weigh more than the shorter projects. There will be no homework, but there will be an exam for each semester. For a project to grade well, it will need to be complete, to go beyond the criteria specified, and show excellent craftsmanship/ attention to detail. The further the work falls short of these expectations, the lower the grade will be. I check my email frequently throughout the day and sometimes in the evenings. I can be reached at plindsay@bartlettschools.org and am happy to help in any way that I can.
