Syllabus/ Social Contract for U.S. History and Geography Honors, Mr. Bivens

WELCOME! This is going to be a great year. I want all parents/Guardians to communicate with me whenever they want. My e-mail address is [email protected]. I will check my e-mail every morning and will be happy to answer any questions I can.

Course Description: The students will gain knowledge of the History and Geography of the United States. They will gain understanding of the United States place in the world and how it became the most powerful nation on earth.

 Class Procedures:

  1. Always bring something to write with, and your notebook. We will take lots of notes! If you are unclear on what to write down, ask me.
  2. Be prepared! The key to this class is reading the online book!
  3. No Talking! Raise your hand and wait to be recognized.
  4. No eating/drinking (except water) in class.
  5. Be on time!
  6. Ask permission to use RR pass! One student at a time and sign the log.
  7. Be Respectful!
  8. You are on the edge of Adulthood; I will treat you like an adult if you act like an adult.

Students not following procedures will be warned. If the problem continues a parent or guardian will be contacted. If there is still no improvement the student will be referred to the administration.

Students will be allowed to make up tests and projects in accordance with school policies. Quizzes will not be made up, but missed quizzes will not count in total average. Homework will be graded on effort instead of correctness. The student will receive 100% for complete work turned in on time. Thereafter- 50%.

Grading policies: Standard grading scale, homework will count 10% of total grade, quizzes and projects will count 30% of total grade, and Tests will count 60% of total grade.

Homework: Will be given 1-2 times a week, usually time will be allowed in class for students to begin working on assignment: It is very important that students read chapters because it is the foundation of the information being taught.

Notebook: Students will be expected to take notes in class. They will keep these notes in some form of notebook. All questions on tests and quizzes will come from my lessons.

Tests will occur approximately every 3 weeks, quiz’s every 3- 5 days.

Students are expected to participate in all classroom activities; participation is the key to understanding.
