AP Statistics (Period 6)
Course Description
AP Statistics is an increasingly important course for high schools seeking to prepare students for college. The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that 236,000 college students are enrolled in an introductory-level statistics course each semester. The content of the course focuses in four areas: Exploring Data, Sampling and Experimentation, Anticipating Patterns, and Statistical Inference. Exploring data will focus on students’ ability to display, understand, and interpret data in a meaningful way. The Sampling and Experimentation section will make sure students can design a study (or experiment) and collect valid data while avoiding bias. Anticipating Patterns is about students’ understanding of random phenomena, or probability. Though these outcomes are random, they follow very specific patterns with a clear mathematical explanation. Finally, Statistical Inference will equip students to test claims and make conclusions with differing levels of confidence.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive one unit of math credit. Upon passing the College Board AP Statistics Exam with a score of 3 or better, you will also receive three college credit hours, in accordance with individual university admission requirements.
