Course Description: Students will study the purposes, principles, and practices of American government as established by the United States Constitution. Students will learn the structure and processes of the government of the state of Tennessee and local governments. Students will recognize their rights and responsibilities as citizens as well as how to exercise these rights and responsibilities at the local, state, and national levels.
This semester you will learn about the founding of our country, the foundations of constitutional government, the three branches, federalism, civil liberties and important court cases involving civil liberties, why citizen participation is important, and how the government of Tennessee operates.
I hope this will be a great class! I look forward to exploring the content we will cover, topics we will debate and overall increasing understanding of government and each other. Cooperation and mutual respect for peers and teachers are key to an enjoyable experience!
