What do you teach?

Computer Science Foundations, Web Design Foundations, Website Development

How long have you been teaching?

2 years

What's the most rewarding part of being a teacher?

I love watching the students collaborate with each other and take ownership over their own learning experience. The "lightbulb moments" when a student figures out a piece of code s/he's been stuck on are pretty amazing as well.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I coach freshman volleyball and enjoy spending time with my family.

What is one piece of advice you would give to students as they move on from high school?

"Be honest, be kind, be useful, be responsible, work hard, treat everyone with respect."
- Barack Obama

How has the integration of technology enhanced learning in your classroom?

I encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and I strive to facilitate a learning environment where students are encouraged to take risks and are supported through their failures. The goal of the web design program at Bartlett High School is for students to develop fundamental skills in both theory and practical application of the basic web design and development process, project management and teamwork, troubleshooting and problem solving.

Whether students are writing code, researching design, critiquing each others' projects, or troubleshooting each other's code via our class website, technology is a simply a tool that we use daily to support our larger learning goals.
