Week of Nov. 14 - 18

Monday, Nov. 14 - Students will complete Voc. 11 quiz.  They will define Voc. 12 words:  facsimile, farce, flagrant, fluctuate, fortitude, gloat, grimace, harass, heresy, hieroglyphic.  Students will review last CFA in order to prepare for their Benchmark Test tomorrow.  
Tuesday, Nov. 15 - Students will complete 10th grade English Benchmark Test.  Students MUST have fully charged computers in class in order to complete the test.
Wednesday, Nov. 16 - Students will compete Voc. 12-2.  They can make flashcards for extra credit.  Students will continue reading "The Cold Equations".
Thursday, Nov. 17 - Students will complete worksheet on the review of the 3 different ways to combine sentences. Students will then finish reading "The Cold Equations" and complete quiz over the story.
Friday, Nov. 18 - Students will complete Voc. 12 quiz.  Students will read "The Dog Who Bit People" and answer the study guide.

Week of Nov. 7 - 11

Monday Nov. 7 - Students will turn in completed Symbols worksheet.  Voc. 11 words to be defined:  espionage, ethical, evade, evolve, excerpt, expedient, explicate, exultant, fabricate, facilitate.  Students will begin reading the short story "The Cold Equation".  Progress Reports will be given out.  Please sign and return by Thursday.
Tuesday Nov. 8 - Students will complete Voc. 11-2 and make flashcards for extra credit.  Students will continue reading "The Cold Equations" and answering the study guide.
Wednesday, Nov. 9 - Students will complete Voc. 11-3 and 11-4.  Students will finish reading "The Cold Equations".  A quiz over the story will either be today or tomorrow.
Thursday, Nov. 10 - Students will complete Voc. 11 quiz.  Signed Progress Reports are due.

Week of Oct. 31 - Nov. 4

Monday, Oct. 31 - Students were given Voc. 6-10 Review Crossword puzzle last Friday.  It needs to be completed by Friday, Nov. 4.  Voc. 6 - 10 Test will be Friday.
Students will complete Poe Webquest in class.  If not finished and turned in, it must be completed for homework.
Tuesday, Nov. 1 -  Students will begin reading "The Pit and the Pendulum" and answering study guide.
Wednesday, Nov. 2 -  Students will continue reading "The Pit and the Pendulum" and answering study guide.
Thursday, Nov. 3 - Students will review symbolization.  They will complete the back of the study guide which covers Poe's use of symbols.
Friday, Nov. 4 -  Students will complete Voc. 6-10 Test.  Students will then complete a sheet on symbols and if needed will finish for homework.

Week of Oct. 24 - 28

Monday, Oct. 24 - Students will define Voc. 10 words:  elite, emancipate,
emphatically, encompass, encumber, enjoin, ensue, episode, equilibrium, erratic. Students will be taking a CFA in Informational Text.  They will begin reading the short story "There Will Come Soft Rains".
Tuesday, Oct. 25 - Students will complete Voc. 10-2 and make flashcards for extra credit.  Students will continue reading "There will Come Soft Rains" and answering a study guide.
Wednesday, Oct. 26 - Students will complete Voc. 10-3 and proofread and correct G.W.U. 10-1.  Students will finish reading "There will Come Soft Rains" and answering a study guide.  They will complete a quiz over the story
Thursday, Oct. 27 - Students will complete Voc. 10-3 and proofread and correct G.W.U. 10-2.  Students will complete a a web quest on Edgar Allan Poe in preparation for the reading of one of his short stories.
Friday, Oct. 28 - Students will complete Voc. 10 quiz.  They will receive a Voc. 6-10 crossword puzzle to complete in preparation for the test next Friday, Nov. 4.
 

Week of Oct. 17 - 21

Monday, Oct. 17 - Students will define Voc. 9 words:  diminutive, disperse, diversion, documentary, ecstatic, edifice, edify, effervescent, eject, electorate.  Students will complete and turn in their powerpoint research project.
Tuesday, Oct. 18 - Students will complete Voc. 9-2 and make flashcards for extra credit.  Students will present their powerpoint research project.
Wednesday, Oct. 19 - Students will complete Voc. 9-3 and G.W.U. 9-1.  Students will begin introduction and background work in preparation for the reading of the short story "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Ray Bradbury.
Thursday, Oct. 20 - Students will complete Voc. 9-3 and G.W.U. 9-2.  Students will begin reading "There Will Come Soft Rains" in the literature book.
Friday, Oct. 21 - Students will complete Voc. 9 quiz.  Students will then finish reading "There Will come Soft Rains".

Week of Oct. 3 - 7

Monday, Oct. 3 - Students will define Voc. 8 words:  debut, decimate, decrepit, defunct, delectable, demure, destitute, deteriorate, detonate,devastation
Students will work in groups to create a powerpoint on a specific topic to follow up the reading of Night.
Tuesday, Oct. 4 - Students will complete Voc. 8-2.  Students can make flashcards for extra credit.  Students need to organize their notebooks according to the notebook checklist that they received last Thursday.  Notebook Test is tomorrow, Wednesday.
Wednesday, Oct. 5 - Students will correct G.W.U. 8-1 and complete Voc. 8-3.  Students will complete Notebook Test using their notebooks.
Thursday, Oct. 6 - Students will correct G.W.U. 8-2 and complete Voc. 8-3
Students will continue to work on their powerpoint projects.
Friday, Oct. 7 - Students will complete Voc. 8 quiz.  Students will then finish working on their projects.

Week of Sept. 26 - 30

Monday, Sept. 26 - Students will define Voc. 7 words:  condescend, condole,
conducive, consolidate, constituent, contemptuous, convene, crony, curtail, debase.  Students will read Chp. 7 and begin Chp. 8 in Night.  They will also answer the study guide.
Tuesday, Sept. 27 - Students will complete Voc. 7-2.  They can make flashcards for extra credit.  We will finish reading Night today.
Wednesday, Sept. 28 - Students will complete Voc. 7-3 and G.W.U. 7-1.  They will also receive a study guide for Night that will review the questions for the test.  Night test is tomorrow (Thursday).
Thursday, Sept. 29 - Students will complete Voc. 7-3 and G.W.U. 7-2.  Night Test.  Students will receive Notebook check sheet to get notebooks in order for Notebook test next Wednesday.
Friday, Sept. 30 - Students will complete Voc. 7 Quiz.  They will take a CFA in class.

Week of Aug. 29 - Sept. 2

Monday, Aug. 29 - Voc. 4 words to define.  1st, 2nd 3rd, 6th, and 7th periods will finish group project work on the Holocaust background.  Study guides will be turned in at the end of class.  5th period will read Elie Weise's speech "Keep the Memory Alive" and answer questions analyzing the speech.  1st and 7th periods will turn in their writing assignments on Washington and FDR's speeches.
Tuesday, Aug. 30 - Voc. 4-2 definitions to be completed.  Students may make flashcards for extra credit.  Students will review rules and examples of Parallel Structure.  They will work on an assignment in class on Parallel Structure and finish the assignment for homework.  Students will receive an interim progress report to be taken home, have signed and return to us by Friday.
Wednesday, Aug. 31 - Students will correct G.W.U. 4-1 and complete sentences Voc. 4-3 #1-5 in class.  Students will turn in Parallel Structure homework.  Students will watch a short introduction video on Night.  Students will begin reading Night.
Thursday, Sept. 1 - Students will correct G.W.U. 4-2 and complete sentences Voc. 4-3 #6-10.  All 9th and 10th grade students will have his or her school picture taken during English class.
Friday, Sept. 2 - Students will complete Voc. 4 quiz.  They will continue reading Night and answer the study guide

Week of August 15 - 19

Monday, Aug. 15 - Students will define Voc. 2 words.  They will set up and organize their notebooks.  Students will then use the information that they gathered about their names to complete a Name Card.  They will write a rough draft of a short story about their name, and then rewrite it in ink on the back of their name cards.  The completed and "decorated" name card is due in class on Tuesday.
Tuesday, Aug. 16 - Students will turn in completed Name Card.  Students will then use their definitions to complete Voc. 2-2.  Students will make flashcards for homework.  Students will then begin to read and analyze FDR's "Four Freedoms" speech.
Wednesday, Aug. 17 - Students will correct G.W.U. 2-1 and complete Voc. 2-3 sentences #1-5.  Students will continue with the reading and analyzing of FDR's speech.
Thursday, Aug. 18 - Students will correct G.W.U. 2-2 and compete Voc. 2-3 sentences #6-10.  Students will begin reading and analyzing George Washington's "Farewell Address".
Friday. Aug. 19 - Students will complete Voc. 2 Quiz.  Students will continue with Washington's speech.
