Class Syllabi

2023-2024 Algebra 2 SYLLABUS

Algebra 2 is the sequel to Algebra 1. It is all your favorite characters, but they face bigger obstacles, fiercer opponents and the stakes have never been higher. In this class you will learn things like: what happens when you mix fractions and exponents, how to use graphs to solve difficult equations, when statistics are worth believing, where the edge of the real number line lies and who lies beyond...

Success in this class requires your attention, your openness, and your persistence. Every effort will be made to provide you with the tools that make answering difficult problems easier. It is UP TO YOU to pick up the right tools and practice using them.

Completed assignments and studied assessments are steps towards mastery. If you do not understand something yet, those assignments and assessments will show where the gaps are. Missing due dates means a breakdown in communication. If handled quickly, these breakdowns are usually not a problem. Procrastination, however, will risk missing your final opportunity to succeed.

A class is a social body, a type of community. To keep our bodies healthy, we must have good habits, the correct diet, and a positive feedback loop of response to stimulus. To ensure that the class community remains mentally, physically, and emotionally safe the following expectations and structures have been adopted:

SUPPLIES

You cannot participate in daily class activities without the proper supplies. It is understandable that there may be occasional days where the complete set of supplies is not available, but it may be reflected in your grades.

*** Students will be expected to have these items ready for class every day ***

  1. Textbook – Savvas Realize Algebra 2 (digital student edition)
  2. Devices – BCS issued laptop, charger, TI-84 Plus CE
  3. Consumables – 3-ring Binder, Savvas Student Companion, Paper, Pencils, Eraser

POLICIES & PROCEEDURES
The ideal classroom may never actually exist, so we have guidelines that help the class community operate smoothly.

  • Students will be reported tardy if not present at the ringing of the second bell.
  • Students will sit in their assigned seats; student seat assignments can and will be changed at any time for the benefit of instructional activities.
  • Student restroom requests will be considered if they do not interrupt whole-class activities.
  • Student assignments will be graded and recorded digitally before being loaded into Powerschool on a weekly basis; written assignments will be returned within one week.
  • Late and missing assignments will be accepted, and quizzes can be reassigned, for partial credit on a case-by-case basis; student makeup requests should be made by email.
  • Students may use classroom resources inside the classroom with the condition they are returned to their place before the end of each class period.

RULES AND CONSEQUENCES

Even in a free country there are rules, or boundaries, that we use to define the relationships we have with others in society. Violations of those rules will always bring an appropriate consequence. Severe violations carry severe consequences.

  • DEVICE USE IS FOR ASSIGNMENTS ONLY
  • BE PREPARED AND ON TASK
  • NO EATING IN CLASS

  1. VERBAL WARNING
  2. DOCUMENTED WARNING

 2023-2024 Bridge Math SYLLABUS

Bridge Math is just that simple. It is the math you need to bridge the gaps between standard high school math and whatever comes next. For some students that means getting ready for college math or raising their ACT scores so they can get into a selective university. Others will need this math for the data and measurements waiting for them in technical schools for medical, transportation, manufacturing, technology, or trades. Entrepreneurs and homemakers will also benefit from the financial and geometric skills they can master.

The most important result of Bridge Math is that you will be able to meet the Tennessee High School Graduation requirements. This is most likely your senior year and you will need the math credit from this class to graduate on time.
