A question I often am asked by students is “when will I ever use this?”
Students who studied math when I was in high school went on to create the internet, the iPhone, GPS, nanotechnology, mapped DNA... they took math and did amazing things your job as my student is to show me what amazing things you are going to do with the math I taught you.
Why would I teach you how it applied in the past when your job is to build the future.
I also did this a few years ago with my students at the time.
